A weekend in Sydney

Having spent the majority of my life condemning Valentine's Day for its segregational undertone and ability to have people spend obscene amounts of money for no particular reason, I had myself feeling a little hypocritical this year. When you have someone to spend the day with, be it a friend, a partner or anyone in between, it's actually a pretty good excuse to make some solid plans and have a great day out. Somehow I managed to spread Valentine's over 3 days but it definitely wasn't intentional... (it so was).

Friday the 12th came my long-awaited opportunity to see one of my favourite bands, Boy and Bear. We headed over to The Hordern Pavillion in the city and found ourselves a nice spot to settle in for the evening. I've only been familiar with Boy and Bear for just over a year but they single-handedly got me through the trauma that is Uni exam revision so they have a special place in my heart. They played for an hour and a half and I can only imagine I looked like a kid in a sweet shop the entire time; it was bliss.

After a lazy Saturday, Sunday's plans involved moseying around Darling Harbour in the sunshine followed by dinner at The Ternary - a beautiful, glass-walled restaurant with stunning views over Sydney's skyline. The set menu consisted of 6 courses but each plate had to be shared between us both, a situation more than a little challenging for two of the greediest humans on the planet. We weren't overly impressed but by the time we'd sunk a cocktail or two and enough Moët to fill a bath, we were less than bothered. After a tipsy Uber home, we crawled into bed like two hibernating bears - definitely a success.

I hope you all spent the weekend in good company and made the most of the discounted chocolates come Monday morning. This is the first year I've felt anywhere near to 'romanced' and even if Valentine's day is a bit of a gimmick, it's nice to spoil and be spoilt every now and again. The sun is still shining out here in Bondi and as we speak, I'm typing this in one of my favourite cafés with every intention of heading to the beach straight after. I'm meant to come home at some point, right?

Speak soon,

Laura
