Happy (sort of) New Year!

Looking back on 2015, I can't quite decide if it's been one of the most or least eventful years of my life so far. Other than moving to Australia, every decision I've made seems obvious and even a little tame upon reflection; doing my thing at Uni, spending less time in the library than I should have done and going to Pure Gym embarrassingly often. I wasn't exactly adventurous.

Perhaps 2015 was a reminder year for me; an unsubtle hint that it is all too easy to stumble into a routine but almost impossible to yank yourself out of it. Maybe I should gratefully accept it as one of those years that encourages you to make a change or face another 365 days of uninspiring choices. Either way, I do feel lucky to have made it through virtually unscathed, minus a potential first heart break, an 18 hour library stint to hit deadlines and daily sunburn.

I spent my New Year's Eve watching the Sydney fireworks and drinking too much tequila. I hate to be THAT person, but I was genuinely disappointed by the display. With the crowds and the impossibly strict alcohol restrictions, myself and a few others prioritised cocktail consumption over a front row view of the harbour lights and I was left feeling shortchanged by the whole experience. The annual event is a global phenomenon so I take full responsibility for my underwhelming review, I just wish it had stunned me. Having said this, I spent the evening in very good company and laughed for a solid 8 hours. Result.

Ultimately, 2016 is underway and my resolutions kickstart tomorrow (gotta allow a day for recovery). I've got a 6am exercise class scheduled and the fridge is stocked with every green vegetable known to man. I know 2016 is going to treat me kindly because I feel more determined than ever to ensure it does. Whether you spent your last hours of 2015 alone, with friends or with family, promise yourself that however your year panned out, there's always room for improvement. I'm genuinely excited to see how I will change and grow in the following months and lucky for you, I'm documenting every hiccup along the way.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Laura
